WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF SPIRITUAL PRACTICES?

“अहं ब्रह्मास्मि” (Aham Brahmasmi)

means
I am Brahman.

Self-realization means understanding that the innermost Self (Ātman) is one with the cosmic essence (Brahman). This profound truth is at the heart of spiritual growth.

Personal growth in spirituality begins with Self-Realization, understanding that your innermost essence (Atman) is one with the cosmic essence (Brahman).

Effective practices include

  • Inner Enquiry: Contemplate the deepest layers of reality to transcend surface-level illusions.
  • Transcending Duality: Shift focus from outer circumstances to the inner journey, freeing the mind from attachments and distractions.
  • Finding Purpose: Discover an inner purpose that aligns with universal harmony and personal authenticity.

At Stardust Tales, our panel of scholars and spiritual experts draws from India’s ancient scriptures to shed light on life’s deepest mysteries.

HOW CAN ONE FIND A SPIRITUAL TEACHER OR GUIDE?

(Bhagavad Gita 4.34)

answers this

saying

this means

“Learn the Truth by approaching a realized master with humility and service. They will impart true knowledge.”

also

the Mundaka Upanishad

says

A true Guru embodies two essential qualities

  • Shrotriya: Deeply learned in scriptures and living their wisdom authentically.
  • Brahma-nishtha: Established in realization of Brahman, the Supreme Reality.

Such a teacher (Soumya)—calm, compassionate, and free of ego—selflessly reveals spiritual truth to sincere seekers, guiding them beyond doubt toward liberation.

Scriptures serve as the roadmap, but the Guru is the compassionate guide who leads us along the spiritual path.

(There is nothing in this world as purifying as spiritual wisdom) –

Higher wisdom dispels ignorance and guides us towards liberation.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF SUFFERING IN SPIRITUALITY?

Bhagavad Gita 2.51

Suffering is a teacher that cultivates detachment and directs us toward inner growth.

  • Adhyatmik: Inner suffering of mind and body due to ignorance.
  • Adhibhautik: Suffering caused by other beings or external factors.
  • Adidaivik: Suffering due to divine or natural forces beyond human control.

Root Cause: Mis-identification with the temporary body, mind, and desires.

Hand holding light against the sky, symbolizing the connection between science and spirituality

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN SCIENCE ND SPIRITUALITY?

Isha Upanishad

answers this

this means-

“All this—whatever exists in this changing universe—is pervaded by consciousness.”

Science studies the external, physical world while spirituality explores the inner reality of consciousness. The Vedas teach that we are more than body and mind—we are eternal Atma, intrinsically connected to Paramatma (the Supreme Self).

Just as physics uncovers natural laws governing matter, spiritual study (Vedanta, Samkhya, Advaita) reveals the laws of consciousness and ultimate reality.

These two approaches complement each other: science explains the material; spirituality explains meaning and purpose.

MOST GOOGLED MYSTICAL QUESTIONS ASKED IN 2025 SO FAR

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MY LIFE?

The Indian Vedas answers this by introducing  the four Purusharthas-Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.

These offer a complete roadmap for living a balanced, meaningful and spiritually fulfilling life.

1. Dharma – Righteous Duty

Living ethically, fulfilling responsibilities and seeking truth. Dharma aligns us with the cosmic order and brings harmony to both individual and society.

- Following ethical principles and leading a virtuous life

- Fulfilling responsibilities towards family, society and

nature

- Seeking knowledge and truth as means of self-evolution

2. Artha – Prosperity and Stability

Pursuing material success and financial well-being with integrity. Artha supports one’s duties and enables spiritual growth, when guided by Dharma.

How to do it?

- Financial security for oneself and family

- Contributions to society through charity and righteous

deeds

- A foundation for spiritual growth, as basic needs must be

met before higher aspirations can be pursued

3. Kama – Joy and Fulfillment

Embracing love, beauty and life’s pleasures in a balanced, conscious way. Kama encourages emotional richness without attachment or excess.

and devotion

HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION?

Bhagavad Gita – Chapter 18, Shloka 63 answers this

"इति ते ज्ञानमाख्यातं गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं मया।
विमृश्यैतदशेषेण यथेच्छसि तथा कुरु॥"

This means-

Enquire fully into what I have told you, and then act as you see fit.

This is a profound lesson in decision-making:
Don’t rush. Reflect deeply. Make choices with clarity and consciousness.

Right decisions don’t start with external data or opinions.
They begin with you—your inner state, intention and clarity.

The Taittiriya Upanishad offers a timeless 6-step method for making sound decisions, applicable across personal, professional and societal spheres:

  • Maintain a calm, balanced mind

  • Let go of selfish motives

  • Detach from anger, jealousy and bias

  • Eliminate distorted or clouded thinking

  • Enquire deeply—analyze the issue, data and perspectives fully

  • Act in alignment with Dharma – Choose what serves the larger good before personal gain.

Trees swaying in the wind symbolizing life’s hardships and sufferings

WHY DO I FACE CERTAIN HARDSHIPS & SUFFERINGS?

The chapter 2, Shlok 62 & 63 of Bhagwad Gita answer this-

This means-

A person who is always thinking of (worldly) things (i.e. not

just material things, but any aspect or anyone of this world),

develops an attachment to them.

From attachment comes desire (to acquire them or to keep

them once acquired).

From this desire comes anger (due to either not being able

to acquire them, or their loss).

From this anger comes delusion (due to rush of emotion and

loss of sound judgment (viveka)).

From this delusion comes confusion of memory (of

knowledge and right conduct).

This confusion of memory causes a loss of intellect, which

then leads to the downfall of the person.

To avoid suffering, one must practice mindfulness, detachment, and inner awareness. Lasting peace doesn’t come from indulging every thought or desire—it comes from mastering them.

At Stardust Tales, our panel of scholars and spiritual experts draws from India’s ancient scriptures to shed light on life’s deepest mysteries.

HOW CAN I FIND LASTING HAPPINESS & FULFILLMENT?

The Srimad Bhagwad Puran answers this-

This means-

In the Indian spiritual tradition, true and lasting happiness is not dependent on external circumstances. It lies in realizing our true nature, described in the scriptures as Sat-Chit-Ananda—the eternal essence of existence.

  • Sat (सत्):
The eternal, unchanging reality. It is the truth that underlies all creation—beyond time, space, and form.

  • Chit (चित्):
Pure consciousness or awareness. It is the knowing principle, the intelligence that illuminates all experiences.

  • Ananda (आनंद):
Infinite bliss or joy. Not fleeting pleasure, but a deep, unshakable peace and contentment that arises from within.

Together, Sat-Chit-Ananda describes the complete and perfect nature of the ultimate reality—a state of being, awareness, and bliss that is our true essence. The verse explains the true purpose of life through the qualities and role of the Divine—Lord Krishna.

A butterfly rising above open hands, symbolizing the soul and life after death.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DEATH & WHAT IS THE NATURE OF THE SOUL?

 The Yakshaprashna Mahabharata answers this-

This means-

This verse highlights the ever-present truth that all living beings move closer to death each day. Yet, despite this certainty, most remain absorbed in worldly pursuits, ignoring mortality. This denial is astonishing. The verse urges reflection on life’s impermanence and the need to recognize death as a key to understanding dharma.

also

The Bhagwad Gita Chapter 2 Shlok 20 says

This means-

The soul never takes birth and never dies at any time nor does

it come into being again when the body is created. The soul is

birthless, eternal, imperishable and timeless. The Soul is never

destroyed when the body is destroyed. The verse  speaks of the immortal nature of the soul

also

The  Shankabhshyam says-

This means-

This verse, attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, reflects the weariness of the soul caught in the endless cycle of birth and death and pleads for divine liberation.
